Our Uniform

School uniform is widely considered to promote an effective work ethic, putting children into the right frame of mind to learn. Uniform helps to take away distractions that may be caused by other pupils’ clothing, accessories or hairstyles. At Tany’s Dell, we celebrate our differences and individuality through children’s talents, skills, relationships, determination and successes. Therefore, all pupils from Nursery upwards will be expected to wear the full school uniform clearly labelled with their name. To purchase items with the school logo on please visit Top Form located at The Stow in Harlow.

Pre-loved Uniform Items

We support the use of pre-loved items. Clean school uniform items that are no longer required and are in good condition, can be donated to the school. These items will be made available to families who need them.

  • Black shorts (Tany's Dell logo or plain)
  • Tany's Dell burgundy round neck t-shirt
  • Black trainers
  • Tany's Dell tracksuit for cold weather
  • Long hair to be tied back

Children will come to school in their Tany's Dell PE Kits on PE days. This allows them to be ready for PE lessons without losing valuable time due to changing.

The Government, through the National Curriculum, requires all children to participate in PE and Games, as well as swimming in Key Stage Two.  From September 2025, all children are expected to come to school in their PE kits on their allocated PE days.

Jewellery, Make Up and Nail Polish

Pupils are not allowed to wear any make-up or nail polish. Gel nails or nail extensions are not permitted. Children are allowed to wear a watch (Smart watches or those that record sound or images are not permitted). Children who have their ears pierced are permitted to wear one pair of small, plain stud earrings in the earlobe, but no earrings are allowed on days when the child has PE. No other jewellery is permitted. We will ask your child to remove any jewellery before PE lessons. Ear piercing should only take place at the beginning of the Summer holidays, to ensure the healing process is completed by September. It is illegal for children under the age of 13 years to have piercings other than ears – therefore no other body piercing is permitted.

Hair

We value inclusivity and diversity, while maintaining a supportive learning environment. Children’s hairstyles contribute to their overall appearance and as such, are part of the school uniform. Cultural and religious hair practices are respected and permitted. Children are required to have a suitable hairstyle at school. Hair dye, extensions and ‘creative shaving’ are not permitted. All pupils with long hair are expected to tie it back. Bows should not exceed 8cm and be the colours of our school uniform items. Any gel or hair products must be minimal, not visible and not used to create extreme hairstyles.

Additional Information

Children should have a warm coat with a hood for the winter and a sunhat for the summer.

All items of uniform must be clearly labelled with your child’s name. School staff cannot be responsible for reuniting un-labelled items of clothing with their owner. Your co-operation in this matter is very much appreciated.

Worn correctly, uniform conveys a positive image to the public and can help to instil a sense of pride and of belonging to a community or organisation. Your help and co-operation in ensuring that you child is suitably dressed for school each day is very much appreciated.
